About Us

Mission statement

The goals of MEPSA remain in essence identical to the original goals of its parent societies, the Australasian Society for Experimental Pathology and the Australian and New Zealand Environmental Mutagen Society, namely:

  1. To bring together people interested in experimental and molecular pathology, as well as environmental genomics.
  2. To promote scientific discourse and exchange, by promoting research and holding Annual Scientific Meetings.
  3. To provide a critical and friendly environment at Meetings, particularly to encourage and foster participation of research students and public presentation of their work.
  4. To foster specialty research groups (within MEPSA) and to provide an environment for them to develop internationally recognised excellence.
  5. To collaborate with international and other regional societies which have similar interests.

Areas of Research Activity

Currently, areas of research interest that are well represented in MEPSA include:

  • Carcinogens, mutagens and epigenetics
  • Photobiology and skin cancer
  • Molecular pathology of cancer
  • Ionising radiation effects
  • Metal ions in health and disease
  • Environmental toxicology
  • Oxidative stress and antioxidants
  • Inflammation and mediators
  • Immunity and infection
  • Wildlife pathology
  • Wound repair
  • Nanotoxicology
